What does using topping do
Topping is a dry hardening mixture that is rubbed into freshly laid concrete to create a durable, dense, and dust-free top layer. This technology solves several problems at once:
- Increased durability — the floor can withstand intense mechanical loads, impacts, and heavy machinery.
- Resistance to abrasion and wear — the surface remains intact even under heavy foot traffic.
- Dust and moisture protection — a dense layer prevents the formation of cement dust and increases moisture resistance.
- Aesthetic appearance — a smooth, uniform surface can have a natural shade or a different color.
Where topping floors are used
Concrete floors with a reinforced top layer are used in facilities with high requirements for load-bearing capacity, sanitation and durability. This coating is versatile and can be used in a wide range of industries:
- Manufacturing plants, engineering and assembly workshops.
- Logistics terminals, warehouses, and hangars.
- Parking lots, car dealerships, and service stations.
- Shopping malls and exhibition pavilions.
- Food, textile, and pharmaceutical industries.
Composition and types of topping
Quartz is optimal for medium loads, reinforces the top layer, and makes it denser.
Corundum is suitable for high loads and provides a strength of up to 80 MPa.
Metallized — used in extreme conditions, such as logistics and heavy product warehouses.
It is also possible to tint the mixture, giving the floor an aesthetic color of your choice.
How is the topping floor laid
The process of installing a concrete floor with a reinforced top layer includes several technological stages. The sequence of work affects the final strength and quality of the surface.
- Base preparation: clearing and compacting the soil, laying a base layer, and installing waterproofing and reinforcement.
- Concrete pouring — we use concrete of at least M300 grade, taking into account the climatic conditions and characteristics of the object.
- Applying the topping: Rub the dry mixture into the concrete surface using the dispensers.
- Grouting — we use professional grouting machines (two-rotor and edge grinders) to achieve a dense, smooth surface.
- Cure treatment: we apply special compounds that retain moisture in the concrete and prevent cracking, followed by joint sealing.
Advantages of topping floors
- 3-5 times longer service life compared to conventional concrete.
- Minimal maintenance and repair costs.
- Dust-free and safe working and storage environment.
- Easy to maintain — regular wet cleaning is sufficient.
- Aesthetics and the ability to choose the color of the floor.
- Quick commissioning — the floors are ready for use within a few days.
